School of Economics and Finance

Professor in Economics - Ref: QMUL11407

The School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London invites applications from scholars of international distinction for the inaugural appointment to the Peston Chair.

The Chair is named in honour of Professor the Lord Maurice Peston, who founded the highly-regarded Economics Department (now School of Economics and Finance) and served as its first head. The appointment is funded in part by gifts from alumni, who count among his many admirers. In recognition of Lord Peston's own combination of scholarly achievement and public service, preference will be given to candidates whose research is at the interface of economics and public policy in the fields of applied microeconomics, finance and macroeconomics.

Queen Mary University of London is one of the world’s leading universities (in the top one per cent of universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education). It has an impressive reputation for academic excellence across the humanities, social sciences, law, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering.

The successful candidate must have a clear international profile and reputation for excellence. An outstanding record of publications with demonstrable impact in the field, and a well-established academic network are essential requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to the development of the School’s research strategies, to be active in attracting research income and to play a full role in leadership and supervision of postgraduate students. A proven ability to provide wider leadership at the School, and to engage with government institutions, is essential.

The appointment is expected to be full-time and permanent. Salary will be by negotiation within the professorial salary range and the overall remuneration package will be competitive. Details about the school can be found at http://www.econ.qmul.ac.uk/. For general enquiries about the position please contact Derek Judge at d.judge@qmul.ac.uk, or call +44 (0)20 7882 8846.

Candidates must upload their curriculum vitae and complete an on-line application form at www.jobs.qmul.ac.uk (reference QMUL11407). The closing date for applications is 4th December 2017. Applicants unable to meet this deadline should please contact the Head of School, Professor Sujoy Mukerji, at s.mukerji@qmul.ac.uk.
